About the McClure Room

A spirit of entertainment and sensory stimulation is ingrained in the architecture of Blackpool. Taking inspirational cues from the structural shapes of the tower, rollercoasters and pier, Mark McClure’s installation brings these elements of entertainment and stimulation into an abstract installation across the walls and ceiling of The McClure Room. Also known as the ‘Illumination’ room, it echoes the playful interactive nature of the amusement arcades and Blackpool’s world-famous light spectacle. You can interact with the light installation by following the artist’s instructions card, set the inbuilt alarm to wake up with your own lightshow, and the outside world can even trigger a brief lightshow by tweeting!
